Panettiere auctions off day with dolphins

The Heroes actress is a longtime campaigner for dolphins and whales, and even had a warrant out for her arrest in Japan after she joined in protests against the slaughtering of the marine mammals in the historic whaling town of Taiji in 2007.

But the brush with foreign authorities hasn't quashed the blonde's campaign against the killing of the friendly sea creatures, and is hoping to raise cash by offering fans a day in the seas with just dolphins and her for company.

The offer is set to go under the hammer on online auctioning site eBay.com and bids will be accepted until 4 September (09).

The cash raised will go towards the Give Good Green campaign.

Gossip Girl bosses: 'Duff diva reports are false'

The 21 year old is currently in New York City filming episodes as a guest star on the hit TV teen drama, in which she plays a movie star who enrols in a university with Vanessa, played by Jessica Szohr.

Rumours swirled that Duff had infuriated the show's cast after refusing to leave her trailer as the others waited to film near Manhattan's Gramercy Park neighbourhood, causing a massive delay in shooting.

A source claims, "No one could believe they would actually hold up taping for her. Nobody in the cast behaves like that."

But a representative for the U.S. programme tells the New York Post's gossip column Page Six the rumour is "absolutely not true".

Williams rekindles failed marriage on film

The funnyman has signed on to star in Disney's Wedding Banned, in which he plays one-half of a long-divorced couple.

The characters reunite after kidnapping their daughter to prevent her from making her own matrimonial mistake by marrying the wrong man, reports Daily Variety.

The actor's second wife Marsha Garces Williams filed for divorce last year (08), citing irreconcilable differences. The couple shares two children.

Jenner accuses Francis of beating girlfriend

The couple was celebrating Jenner's 26th birthday at hotspot Guys & Dolls when Nicole threw a drink at Francis, who she claims was "unrelentingly" hitting on a friend, Jenner tells TMZ.com.

According to a post on Jenner's Twitter.com blog, Francis then "pulled (Nicole) to the ground, punched and kicked her".

Club security guards broke up the fight before police were called to the scene.

Jenner claims he then followed Francis out of the venue and punched him in the face - but was struck with a Taser gun.

Nicole alleges she has a bruised cheek and ribs, a swollen face, and a sore stomach, and now plans to press charges against Francis.

Los Angeles Sheriff LaJuana Haselrig tells Usmagazine.com, "A report was taken. It's still under investigation. There were no arrests."

Demers says 'common sense' will help in Senate

Former NHL coach Jacques Demers says he isn't worried about fulfilling his new role as a Canadian senator.

Prime Minister Stephen Harper appointed Demers and eight other people to the upper chamber on Thursday.

Demers is well known for publicly speaking out about his struggle with illiteracy four years ago.

The one-time Montreal Canadiens coach said he's worked very hard to improve his reading skills and is confident he'll be able to serve in the upper chamber.

"I listen; I pay attention," Demers said in an interview with CBC Montreal. "They say to me I have common sense, and that's very important.

"When there's something I don't understand that's written, I'm not just going to bypass it and go to the next line."

Demers has been working as a hockey commentator for French network RDS.

Harper also named two other Quebecers to the Senate.

Judith Seidman, an educator and researcher, was the Quebec co-chair of Harper's 2003 leadership bid.

Claude Carignan, a lawyer and current mayor of Saint-Eustache, ran as a Conservative candidate in the 2008 federal election.

Toyota moves Calif. plant production to Ontario

Toyota will move production of a subcompact to Ontario when its joint venture with GM in California ends next March.

The California plant's production of the Corolla will be moved to Toyota's Cambridge facility, as well as a plant in Japan, the company said Friday.

"Corollas will be sourced from its Cambridge, Ont., Canada plant, as well as Japan to meet near-term demand. This will enable an uninterrupted supply of vehicles to dealers and customers in North America," said a Toyota news release.

The Cambridge plant already assembles Corolla sedans and Matrix hatchbacks.

It is not yet clear how many jobs will be gained in Ontario because of the move.

Toyota's board voted Thursday to end the company's production contract at the Fremont, Calif.-based New United Motor Manufacturing Incorporated plant in 2010. The decision will see the shutdown of the auto assembly plant.

Toyota had said it was moving toward liquidating its stake in the West Coast facility after the plant's fate was thrown into question in June when GM announced it was withdrawing from the 50-50 joint venture.

The plant has also been assembling the Tacoma pickup and the Pontiac Vibe.
