Law and order deteriorates, crime rife

Law and order has deteriorated in the capital city and elsewhere in the country.
High incidence of crime like mugging, robbery indicate that the city has become vulnerable to criminal activities.
The intelligent sources attributed it to the fact that criminals, including some most-wanted ones, arrested earlier by members of the law enforcing agencies, are getting out of jails on bails.
They said a number of listed criminals in the Dhaka''s underworld after coming out of jails have started criminal activities.
According to sources, around 1000 more criminals, including some most-wanted ones arrested in Dhaka and elsewhere in the country, are trying to come out of jails on bails. Police are making a list of criminals getting released.
An intelligent agency recently made a list of the top criminals trying to come out of jails on bails and sent it to the home ministry, the sources said.
A senior police official said the courts are giving them bails, "we have nothing to do." But the law enforcers are also keeping close watch on movement of the recently released criminals.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) police commissioner Shahidul Haque said a list of the released and would-be released criminals has been made.
They said some most wanted terrorists in Dhaka''s underworld have already got bails in all their cases. Some of them have already got released from jails on bails.
After coming out of jails, some terrorists started reorganising themselves and getting them involved in various criminals activities like toll collection, sources said.

"Hearing a hue and cry, a patrol team of river police rushed in and chased the pirates," says a spot account of the incident.
In the face of the hot chase by the river cops, the criminals ran away into the village for hiding.
But local people caught 10 of them and beat them black and blue, leaving three dead on the scene and injuring 7 others in the lynch-mob thrashing.
Later, the policemen rescued the seven pirates from the wrath of the angry mob and got them admitted to the local health complex where Shohagh died shortly after admission.
Another four alleged dacoits were killed in a lynch-mob attack at Sedhainagar village in Sitakunda upazila of Chittagong in the early hours of the day.
