Expert physicians on Saturday said that the country has enough capacity to deal with Swine flu cases. They urged all not to get panicked about swine flu. The government has taken all necessary measures to tackle the evolving situation, the physicians told a seminar.
The physicians also gave thrust on creating mass awareness about swine flu. The common people should be informed that they will get proper treatment in time under the country''s existing healthcare system.
Swine flu or H1N1 virus is spreading fast across the country, affecting 163 people so far.
"People should not get panicked about swine flu as an adequate number of doctors has already been trained to deal the evolving situation," Prof Dr Nazrul Islam, former Vice Chancellor of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU), told a seminar on Swine Flu at its Shaheed Milon auditorium.
"Science has developed enough over time and the methods of containing deadly diseases have also been invented to provide healthcare services to people," Dr Nazrul Islam told the programme.
Speaking on the occasion, BSMMU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Pran Gopal Datta also said there is nothing to be worried about swine flu as science has made the treatment of diseases easier. "There was a time when lakhs of people would die of cholera but today it can be easily tackled with modern treatment."
He said the present government has already taken measures to tackle swine flu and hospitals in the city have been kept ready for the treatment of H1N1 virus-affected patients. "Treatment in isolated units is available at PG Hospital for tackling the upcoming threat on the flu," he said.
Prof Dr Shahina Tabassum, the chairperson of Virology Department of BSMMU, presented the keynote paper at the seminar.
In her paper, Dr Tabassum said some 163 cases of swine flu have been detected across the country till date. "Swine flu was first detected in the country on 18 June, 2009," she mentioned.
Prof Dr M Chowdhury Ali Kawser, chairman of Pediatrics department and Prof Dr Syed Atiqul Haque, chairman of medicine department, were, among others, present as panel experts.
Dr AKM Mosharrraf Hossain of BSMMU told UNB that people should massively use facial masks and also wash their hands rapidly when they get back home as these practices could save them from getting affected with swine flu.
