Both keep off each other''s party
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia hosted Iftar parties on Saturday at the Ganobhaban and Parliamentary LD Hall in honour of political leaders of the country, report agencies.
Earlier, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and opposition leader Khaleda Zia both had invited each other to their respective party on the same day Saturday.
But neither opposition leader Khaleda Zia nor any of her party representatives did turn up at the PM Iftar party, while Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina or her representatives did not turn up at the Iftar party responding to the opposition leader''s invitation.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina hosted iftar party for political leaders at Ganobhaban Saturday.
Prime Minister and Awami League chief Haisna and opposition leader and BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia both had invited each other to their respective evening party on the same day today.
JP chairman HM Ershad MP, Begum Rowshan Ershad MP, Bikalpadhara chairman Prof Badruddoza Chowdhury, JP leader Anwar Hossain Manju, JSD president Hasanul Huq Inu MP, Workers Party president Rashed Khan Menon MP, Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB) president Manjurul Ahsan Khan, Awami League leaders Adv Yusuf Hossain Humayun, Abdur Razzak MP, Amir Hossain Amu MP, Syed Sajeda Chowdhury MP, Sheikh Selim MP and Agriculture Minister Begum Motia Chowdhury MP sat on the podium erected on the lawn of the Ganobhaban.
Besides, Ministers, Advisers, Krishak Sramik Janata League leader Abdul Qader Siddiqui, JSD leaders Syed Zafar Sajjad and Mainuddin Khan Badal MP, Jatiya Party secretary-general Ruhul Amin Howlader MP, Awami League leader Suranjit Sengupta MP, and Barrister Anisul Islam Mahmud MP and Ziauddin Ahmed Bablu of JP were present at the iftar party.
The Prime Minister went round the lawn exchanging greetings with the invitees and leaders and activists of her party and its associate organizations.
Before iftar, a special prayer was offered seeking divine blessings for the martyrs of the liberation war, father of the nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and those killed on august 15, national leaders killed in Dhaka central jail and PM''s scientist-husband Wazed Ali Miah.
Meanwhile, BNP chairperson and opposition leader Khaleda Zia Saturday hosted an iftar party for political leaders of the country on the Parliament LD Hall premises.
The leaders of partners of the BNP-led four-party alliance and other political parties attended the evening party of feasting after the day''s Ramadan fasting.
Khaleda Zia, also a former PM, exchanged pleasantries with guests at the outset.
Before iftar, a munajat was offered seeking peace, progress and welfare of the country and its people.
Among the political leaders who attended the iftar was Jamaate-Islami Ameer Maulana Matiur Rahman Nizami, in apparently his first face-to-face meet with Khaleda Zia after December 29 election debacle.
Also present were Islami Oikya Jote (IOJ) chairman Fazlul Haque Amini, BJP chairman Andalib Rahman Partho, Khelafat Majlish chief Maulana Abu Ishaque, chairman of another faction of BJP Dr MA Matin, JAGPA president Shafiul Alam Prodhan, National People''s Party chairman Sheikh Shawkat Hossain Nilu, National Democratic Party chairman Golam Mortaza, Democratic League general secretary Saifudddin Moni and People''s League leader Gorib Newaz.
Leaders of the BNP and its front organizations, including BNP secretary-general Khandaker Delwar Hossain and its standing-committee members Dr RA Gani and Dr Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain and leaders Mirza Abbas, Dhaka Mayor Sadek Hossain Khoka, Nazmul Huda, Barkatullah Bulu, Nazrul Islam Khan and Sultan Salauddin Tuku also participated in the iftar party.
